Flat roofs are low-slope roofs with a pitch of less than 10 degrees. They are designed to allow for water drainage and provide usable space. Flat roofs are a popular choice for homes and commercial properties. They are more cost-effective than pitched roofs and even offer a modern and sleek aesthetic for modern properties.
Many commercial buildings and residential properties prefer flat roofs due to their affordability and efficiency. They maximize usable space, allowing for rooftop HVAC systems or even garden areas. Choosing the right flat roofing system ensures durability and energy efficiency.

The truth is that proper installation is the key to keeping a flat roof in top condition over years to come, providing long-lasting protection against the elements. Advantage owner Mark Villano offered helpful and knowledgeable advice and took a personal interest in the project.Posted on Pat ATrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. When we decided it was time to replace our 50-year-old roof down to the sheeting, an acquaintance suggested we contact Mark Villano at Advantage Roofing, since she was very pleased with the job he did replacing her roof. Within a couple of days after contacting Mark he came over to assess the roof, discuss the details of the job, and provide us with a wide array of samples so we could pick the color and look of the shingles we wanted. We quickly received a very reasonable and detailed quote. Given that it was January, a tentative date was set for later in March but, with the snow melted and good weather in the forecast, Mark contacted us to say the job could be done sooner. The dumpster was delivered on one day, the roofing materials the next day, and the crew arrived the day after that. They got right to work, and it was obvious they were very coordinated and worked well together. Nine sheets of plywood needed to be replaced, and the new roof was completed and everything wrapped up in about 7 hours. This included every piece of debris being picked up, and the walks and driveway swept clean. The dumpster was removed the following morning. Bottom line: We are very happy with the new roof, how smoothly everything went, and how clean everything was after the job was done. If you need a new roof, we highly recommend Advantage Roofing and suggest you give Mark a call!Posted on Daniel BedekerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It’s best to inspect a flat roof at least twice a year, in spring and fall. Regular inspections help catch small issues before they turn into costly repairs. After severe storms, an extra check is also recommended.
The best material depends on your needs. TPO and PVC are great for energy efficiency, while EPDM is known for durability. Modified bitumen is another option for added flexibility and strength. A roofing expert can help you choose the right one for your home or business.
The lifespan depends on the material and maintenance. EPDM can last 25–30 years, TPO and PVC roofs last about 20–25 years, and modified bitumen lasts around 15–20 years. Proper installation and regular upkeep extend a roof’s lifespan.
Yes, but they require a well-designed drainage system. Flat roofs are slightly sloped to direct water toward drains, scuppers, or gutters. Without proper drainage, standing water can lead to leaks and damage.
Flat roofs are built to handle typical snow loads, but excessive weight can be a problem. Snow removal may be necessary in severe winters to prevent stress on the roof. Reinforced materials and regular maintenance help improve durability.
In many cases, yes. Flat roofs often have lower installation costs because they require fewer materials and less labor. However, maintenance and repairs can add up over time, so choosing high-quality materials is important for long-term savings.
