A roof coating is a protective layer applied to a roof’s surface to shield it from damage, improve insulation, and enhance energy efficiency. It’s not just about protection; a good coating can extend the roof’s lifespan and help reduce energy costs.
Whether it’s a flat roof, sloped metal roof, or industrial roof, coatings can enhance their performance and protect them from the elements. However, they are not recommended for shingle roofs. Coating shingles can trap moisture, which may lead to mold and damage the roof over time.
If you’re looking to upgrade your residential or commercial property’s roof with a modern and energy-efficient coating, our team at Advantage Roofing is here to guide you. We’ll help you choose the perfect coating for your roof.

Advantage owner Mark Villano offered helpful and knowledgeable advice and took a personal interest in the project.Posted on Pat ATrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. When we decided it was time to replace our 50-year-old roof down to the sheeting, an acquaintance suggested we contact Mark Villano at Advantage Roofing, since she was very pleased with the job he did replacing her roof. Within a couple of days after contacting Mark he came over to assess the roof, discuss the details of the job, and provide us with a wide array of samples so we could pick the color and look of the shingles we wanted. We quickly received a very reasonable and detailed quote. Given that it was January, a tentative date was set for later in March but, with the snow melted and good weather in the forecast, Mark contacted us to say the job could be done sooner. The dumpster was delivered on one day, the roofing materials the next day, and the crew arrived the day after that. They got right to work, and it was obvious they were very coordinated and worked well together. Nine sheets of plywood needed to be replaced, and the new roof was completed and everything wrapped up in about 7 hours. This included every piece of debris being picked up, and the walks and driveway swept clean. The dumpster was removed the following morning. Bottom line: We are very happy with the new roof, how smoothly everything went, and how clean everything was after the job was done. If you need a new roof, we highly recommend Advantage Roofing and suggest you give Mark a call!Posted on Daniel BedekerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The frequency of roof coating depends on various factors, including the type of coating, local climate, and the condition of your roof. Typically, a high-quality roof coating can last anywhere from 5 to 10 years if applied correctly. Regular inspections and maintenance can help extend the life of the coating and ensure your roof remains in excellent condition.
While it is technically possible to apply a roof coating yourself, it is not always the best option. Professionals have the experience to inspect the roof for damage, prepare the surface properly, and apply the coating evenly for maximum effectiveness. Without the proper tools and expertise, DIY applications can lead to uneven coatings, poor adhesion, or missed areas that compromise the roof’s protection.
Reflective roof coatings reflect sunlight and reduce heat absorption, which helps lower indoor temperatures and energy costs. They improve indoor comfort during hot months, making your HVAC system work less hard to maintain a comfortable temperature. Additionally, cool roof coatings contribute to reducing the urban heat island effect, benefiting the environment.
No, experts strongly advise against applying roof coatings to shingle roofing. Shingles are designed to allow airflow, and applying a coating can trap moisture, leading to mold and mildew growth. This not only damages the shingles but can also decrease the lifespan of your roof significantly.
